Apple boss Steve Jobs take sick leave

According to the recent headlines, Apple boss Steve Jobs has announced that he is to take “medical leave” from the company. In an e-mail to employees he said he was taking the break to focus on his health. He said he would continue as chief executive of Apple and be involved in any major decisions. Day-to-day running of the company will pass to Tim Cook.

In late 2008 to mid-2009 Mr Jobs was absent from Apple for six months to have a liver transplant. It was part of the series of treatments he has undergone for pancreatic cancer. He was first diagnosed as suffering from the cancer in 2004 and underwent surgery later that year to remove a tumor from his pancreas. In his e-mail Mr Jobs said he would be back at work as soon as he can.

“At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company. I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple’s day to day operations,” he said in an e-mail.

Mr Cook is currently the firm’s chief operating officer. He has run the company day-to-day before now during previous times when Mr Jobs has been dealing with his health problems. The announcement was made on a public holiday in the US when there is no trading in company stocks and shares. However, Apple shares traded in Frankfurt are down 7% on the news. Read more… »

finding ways to keep food from spoiling

We have been having problems over food storage. This happens not too long ago. It started when Maya had so many spoil foods inside the containers. Afterward, the food we kept eventually spoils even after few hours inside the fridge. I guess the containers got contaminated and we have no clue which one is the culprit. It would be a waste to throw all the plastic containers. That’s why I want to find some ways to keep the food from spoiling.

Anyway, if nothing happens from it, then we have no choice. We really need to change all the plastic containers we have. It is still much cost effective that way, rather than having spoiled food leftovers all the time. If that happens, I just wish Maya won’t keep her leftovers for a very long time.

idea of going back to school

A few days ago, wifey opened the idea of her going back to school to take up a master’s degree. This is not the first time she share her thoughts about it. The only difference is that she wanted to enroll in an online university rather than in traditional school. During our conversation she laid out all the benefits she can get when she opt for this type of higher education.

She said online university offers a lot of benefits including flexibility, affordability and convenience. There is no need for her to drop her daytime activities including work and family because online education may be done at any time of the day. Also, there is no constraint with regards the location as any student can attend the session whether they are outside the country. All they need is an internet connection and a computer. Plus, the school fees are lower as compared to traditional school since students no longer pays for a dormitory, transportation and no longer need to spend for lots of school clothes.

Oh well, I’m pretty impressed that she does some homework. But, she changes her mind easily. Let’s just see if she makes up her mind on this one.

tips to prevent back pain

Back pain affects many people. The more time you spend sitting at a desk, in a car, or in front of the television or a computer, the more you must do to prevent back pain. Good posture, proper body mechanics, and exercise will help you prevent back pain. Here are some preventive tips for back pain problems:

  • Maintain an ideal body weight. This reduces the load on your lower back. Lose weight if you need to. For more information, see the topic Weight Management.
  • Practice good posture and body mechanics. Like proper lifting techniques and sleeping positions that protect your back.
  • Adjust your car seat so that you are not reaching for the steering wheel when you drive. Your arms should be in a slightly flexed, comfortable position.
  • Always wear your seat belt while you are in a motor vehicle.

wifey’s long time plan

Wifey has been planning to buy a new laptop for a long time. It is one of her goal last year (2010). But, due to some huge finances she wasn’t able to purchase it. She doesn’t want to use our savings for the sake of device. Good thing she can still use her Dell laptop, despite its chapped appearance and dead battery. Well, it’s her laptop for almost five years now, so I guess we had our money’s worth.

Anyway, she told me when the right time has come; she would opt for Sony VAIO. She wants to try the brand because she finds a cute appearance in the mall a few months ago. But, she holds back at that time due to the specs available.

Oh well, I have nothing against her idea. The only downside I spotted is the price. We all know VAIO can costs a lot as compared to other brands. But, if we can find huge discount, then I think we can give it a try. Even so that will still happen in the future.

opt to remain in silence

Roi (a friend of mine) is a victim of car accident a few years ago. But, instead of looking for an accident attorney, he and his family opts to remain in silence even if they are the victim. Now, he is suffering from the troubles of not having the ability to walk without the use of cane. It hinders him from getting some work especially in his nursing profession. If his family opt to get the right compensation for the injuries he acquired from the accident, for sure it could help him a lot now.
