invitation that i almost forgot

I was told last month that I am invited to attend a first communion ceremony of my friend’s son. But, I did not take him seriously as he delivers his verbal invitation in a funny manner. Actually, I even forget about it until last Saturday when he started to send out his son’s first communion invitations. And, I am the first one who received it.

Oh my I think I won’t be able to say no to this one. It seems like he prepared a lot as the invitation shows it. It would be terrible if I would not come to this important day to his little one. Well, I think I can spare a day for it.

Anyway, I am off to go to continue cleaning the house. I promised to do the major cleaning now since it is holiday and not my day off. So, I have no other things to do except for blogging and cleaning.

we finally hear the good news of the year

Finally we get the good news of the year. Wiffy’s brother will graduate high school. We have been waiting for that news a long time. And we almost lose hope yesterday as the graduation will be on March 31, 2010. I think it is such a good Monday for the rest of the family.

For that matter, we have to make preparations. Good thing I already bookmarked the silk designer ties site that offers up to 40% off on selected items. But, we still need to look for polo, pants and dress for wiffy’s mom.

This may sound a little exagerrated for high school graduation. But, this preparation is worthy because the family is not expecting that he will pass this stage. Yet, he did so everybody is really happy about it and wants to show the appreciation we have for him. Doing so might give him motivation to do better in college.

Variable Blood Pressure A Warning Sign For Stroke?

According to the new research, people with occasionally high blood pressure are more at risk of stroke than those with consistently high readings. Current guidelines focus on measuring average blood pressure levels to spot and prevent the chance of a stroke. But research suggests doctors should no longer ignore variation in test results and give drugs that produce the most steady blood pressure levels.

In the first of the series of studies published in The Lancet, UK and Swedish researchers looked at the variability in blood pressure readings at doctors’ checks. They found those with fluctuating readings at different GP visits had the greatest risk of future stroke regardless of what their average blood pressure reading was.

Professor Peter Rothwell of the Department of Clinical Neurology at the University of Oxford, who led the research, said that rapid fluctuations that can cause turbulent flow of blood which can cause damage and stiffening in the arteries. Anyone with high blood pressure who tests themselves at home might want to mention to their GP if they spot variations in their results.

With this new research it is now important that the clinical guidelines about treating high blood pressure are reviewed. In the meantime, urging GPs to read this research to help them prescribe the best treatment for people at risk of stroke.

Experts stressed that those already prescribed medication for high blood pressure should not worry or stop taking their pills. Current practice is not wrong, but this might add a new measure to help doctors make decisions on who to treat for hypertension and which drug to use.

Shell, PetroChina in joint bid for Australian energy company

According to the latest news, Royal Dutch Shell and PetroChina have launched a joint $2.96bn takeover bid for Australian liquefied natural gas (LNG) group Arrow Energy.

The news led to shares in Arrow jumping 47% on the Australian stock market. In a statement Arrow said that “recommends shareholders take no action in relation to their Arrow shares” at this stage. Arrow claims to have the largest reserves of natural gas in Australia’s northern eastern state of Queensland.

Analysts said Shell and PetroChina want to buy Arrow to increase their LNG supplies to China. LNG is gas that has been converted into liquid form through cooling, which makes it easier and cheaper to transport by sea.

early wedding preparations

It is true that we don’t have any wedding plans yet. We feel there is something more to do before that because we haven’t reached our dreams as single. However, as early as now my girl is starting to bookmark sites of wedding ideas. She already made a list of possible bridesmaid gifts, giveaways and so on.

Hmmm, I think I am the only one who doesn’t have wedding plans. I guess my partner already have her own. When asked, she would answer that it is better to start early so we won’t have too much stress when we will decide to tie the knot. But, I have sinister thoughts in my mind after asking her like what if I won’t marry her? What will happen? Good thing, I love her a lot and would never do that.

time for a change and upgrade

At last the ballasts of our light went off last Saturday. I’m not supposed to be happy because it happened. The thing is, it is a great opportunity to shift to Wall Sconces or wall lantern lights. That is my plan for a long time.

I have been eyeing the Dolan Designs for quite some time. Yet, I can’t commit into buying one since all our lights are functioning properly. My partner would not agree to the modification I planned because she feels it is a waste of money changing something that is still functional.

Since the lights were busted, then she has no choice because we need to have some lights. Buying the same kind is too boring and still it is expensive. So, why not buy something stylish, presentable and very modern. It’s better that way.

Most often than not, Most people have experienced memory lapse – you try to speak a word that you know it exists, and you know what it means, but you just cannot pronounce. This event is also called “tip-of-the-tongue.” Your brain no longer seems capable of fixing itself precisely on the word you are looking for, and you spend some time until you finally remember the particular word, phrase or expression. Now, a new scientific study seeks to explain these phenomena, by looking at how often we use the words that are most likely to escape our mind when we attempt to remember them.

This investigation may have significant consequences for analyzing the manner in which the human brain organizes and remembers language. Though this is one of the main traits that have allowed us to become the dominant species on this planet, researchers are still largely flying in the dark when it comes to studying this issue. With the advent of modern brain-imaging methods, some progress has been made, but neuroscientists and neurobiologists admit that they still have a long way to go before they can say they understand the phenomenon, LiveScience reports.

The new investigation focused on individuals who could speak at least two languages, as well as on individuals who were deaf, and used the American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate with each other, and with others. The study showed that people using ASL to “speak” to others also experienced “tip-of-the-finger”. Additionally, it was found that they exhibited the behavior with about the same frequency as people using spoken language to communicate.

The scientists believe that tip-of-the-tongue/finger may originate in the infrequent use of the words that are more likely to be forgotten. But this issue cannot readily be addressed with forms of therapy because people cannot be asked to repeat all the words they could use at one point during the day each morning.

haven’t done what I said

Remember the time I say I will cut back on my food to trim down. Well, it did not happen. I still continue eating the amount of food that I typically eat. That’s why I’m still suffering from very tight uniform. It’s actually my fault because wiffy is already packing small amount of lunch. But, when I get home at night I eat until I’m super full. It’s my way of relaxing; as eating adds to my super low energy.

Anyway, I know I can’t go on like this because the risk of getting obese related diseases it high. I have to do something about it. I also said before that I will buy one of those treadmills. But, it did not happen as well. So, I will really work hard this time to get the product. That is the only way I can think of to get rid of my excesses.

I found this very interesting article and just want to share it with you.

Researchers have learned that farm fowls beat humans when it comes to their perception of color. The investigation revealed that, regardless of the actual size of their brains, the animals can perceive a wider and more accurate range of colors than the human eye ever could. The researchers in charge of the new investigation say that the main thing differencing the two species is the fact that chicken have eyes that are considerably better organized than those of humans. The study looked at five types of individual light-detecting cells in the retinas of chicken, LiveScience reports.

The investigation revealed that these cells were disposed in a very interesting pattern on the birds’ retinas. They were interwoven, in a mosaic-type pattern that ensured all portions of the retina exhibited about the same color-recognition ability.

The reason for this high degree of organization can be found in the creatures’ evolutionary history, ranging all the way down to the time of the dinosaurs. As we now know, birds and dinosaurs could have had a common ancestor, but the winged animals never experienced an evolutionary stage in which they were nocturnal. While most mammal species learned to hunt and roam at night, thus developing rod cells on their retina (for night-vision), birds seldom went out at night. This means that they had a few extra millions of years to develop more time of cone retinal cells which are used to detect color during daytime. We, as descendants of the common ancestor we share with primates, are subjected to the same limitation as all mammals.
