Love has always been, and will perhaps continue to be relative to each individual, scientists have a really tough job to narrow the concept down to a universal “recipe.” The same goes for attractiveness, which is equally hard to pin down in theory. In this sense, a new study comes to show that, where men are concerned, an 8.2-second gaze means they rate a woman highly attractive, which raises the odds of love at first sight.

Study was conducted on 115 male students, gathered in one single location and confronted with beautiful young actresses and models. Their eye movements, as they interacted with the women, were studied with the help of hidden cameras and then analyzed by comparison. As the figures revealed, a man who rated a lady attractive held eye contact for about an average of 8.2 seconds, which increased his chances of falling in love at first sight, researchers said.

Oppositely, if the gaze lasted for about 4.5 seconds or less, the man in question was not interested in any way in the woman he had made eye contact with, which meant he did not consider her good-looking enough. Ladies, on the other hand, did not make this distinction, since they paid the same amount of attention and held eye contact for just as long with both men they were interested in and those they did not fancy, for one reason or another, the same study showed.

Researchers believe that this difference between men and women can best be explained by the fact that the former use eye contact to seek fertile and fit mates. Meanwhile, the latter shy from making eye contact or drawing unwanted attention onto themselves for fear of unwanted pregnancies and single parenthood, it has been said.

However, one might as well add, if eye contact does not lead to love, then online dating certainly will, as another recent study has indicated. Of the 22 million people registered with dating sites in 2007, one in five actually met their true love and walked down the aisle with them, which would clearly indicate that online dating comes in handy when looking for love. “To date, there has been no systematic study of love in the context-of relationships formed via online dating sites. But with the popularity of online dating, it is imperative we understand the factors that influence satisfaction in relationships formed in this way.” Dr. Jeff Gavin, a researcher who studied the phenomenon of “love on the Internet,” told the Daily Mail a while back.

idea of going back to school

A few days ago, wifey opened the idea of her going back to school to take up a master’s degree. This is not the first time she share her thoughts about it. The only difference is that she wanted to enroll in an online university rather than in traditional school. During our conversation she laid out all the benefits she can get when she opt for this type of higher education.

she wants to gain weight

Not all people dreamed of losing weight. I know one who has been having issues of being super thin. The helper of the house came here three months ago being super skinny. She said she lost a lot of weight because of the many circumstances she went through. Now, she finds it difficult to gain some weight.

Everyone advised her to eat more than what she does, which she did for about three months. But, when she weighed she is still 46klg or a 101 pounds. That is still a little too low for her height. Actually she herself is looking for the best weight gain supplements to increase her numbers.

Unfortunately, so many things happen last month that resulted to her losing weight. Although she did not hit the weighing scale, I guess she lost like two or three kilos. I never thought there are people who have difficulty gaining weight while the norms is the opposite.

According new study loneliness can be contagious, just like a common cold or other infection. This means that people who suffer from it tend to spread it to others who, in turn, are pushed to the periphery of the social network where they too start infecting other people. The implications of such a thing include marginalization, in the context of society naturally turning its back on these people, Eureka Alert informs, based on the findings of the study.

“We detected an extraordinary pattern of contagion that leads people to be moved to the edge of the social network when they become lonely,” University of Chicago psychologist John Cacioppo, member of the study team, says of the findings, as cited by the aforementioned publication. “On the periphery people have fewer friends, yet their loneliness leads them to losing the few ties they have left,” Cacioppo adds.

“The data showed that lonely people ‘infected’ the people around them with loneliness, and those people moved to the edges of social circles. The team found that the next-door neighbors in the survey who experienced an increase of one day of loneliness a week prompted an increase in loneliness among their neighbors who were their close friends. The loneliness spread as the neighbors spent less time together. Previous work suggested that women rely on emotional support more than men do, and in this study women were more likely than men to report ‘catching’ loneliness from others. People’s chances of becoming lonely were more likely to be caused by changes in friendship networks than changes in family networks,” Eureka Alert says of the study.
